The blood moon provides a unique opportunity to flood the sky with monochromatic light, softly illuminating stately pine trees.

Judges' comments

Strong diagonal lines against the luminous moon evokes an eerie atmosphere. Sharper focus on the pines in front of the moon would enhance the contrast.

The detail and rhythmic lines of the grasses draws the viewer's eye into the photograph. Inconsistent light sources confuse the eye.

Look at that moon! Strong second. Slightly greater tonal range would have added more depth to the photograph.
